Great Lakes Nautical Society Makes Waves In Fort Gratiot

9/21/07 -
Local hobbyists Norm Hart and Jim Carnegie took advantage of the warm weather recently to sail their model boats at the Parker Road pond.  Each boat is hand crafted, and boasts detailed features such as working smokestacks, horns, fire monitors and water sprays.  Jim Carnegie just returned from the 19th Annual St. Louis Tug Regatta, where he and his ship took third place.  Both men are members of the Great Lakes Nautical Society, which has approximately 20 area members, and meets the first Wednesday of each month at Acheson Ventures.

Smooth sailing.

Fort Gratiot County Park Tunnel Memorial Dedication

8/31/2007-
The Fort Gratiot Township County Park is now officially open to the public.  The Memorial Dedication was held on August 31, 2007, in honor of the 22 workers who lost their lives
Dec. 11, 1971 in the Detroit water tunnel explosion.  The dedication included the unveiling of a bronze sculpture of a helmeted worker with the inscriptions of the victims etched in stone created by California artist Paula Slater. More pictures of the memorial are available at the artists' website at www.PaulaSlater.com.
