Meeting Rules For A Public Hearing

Begin by clearly stating your name and address to ensure accuracy in the meeting minutes.

State your comments, opinions, or questions on the issue being discussed.

Public comment is limited to three (3) minutes per person, to ensure that everyone has time to speak.  Board members will take comments, but will not necessarily respond.


Trash Pickup

QUESTION: When does trash need to be out by the road for pickup?

ANSWER: All items must be placed by the road by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled day to ensure collection.

QUESTION: What holidays will effect trash pickup delay?


ANSWER: All Federal Holidays will result in a 1 (one) delay day in trash pickup.

QUESTION: What are the rules for Bulk and Metal item pickup?

ANSWER: Bulk items are considered household furniture, such as Boxsprings, couches, Mattresses, Chairs, Tables, etc, and will be picked up during regularly schedules trash pickups.  Metal items are picked up on Tuesdays only, and MUST be called in to Marcotte no later than 3pm Monday.  Freon items must be tagged for pickup.

QUESTION: When is yard waste pickup, and what are the regulations?

ANSWER: Yard waste will be collected weekly beginning the week of April 16th and ending the week of November 25th.  Yard waste must be in compostable paper bags or 33 gallon cans with no lids marked with an "X".  All branches must be tied and bundled with string or twine, and can be no longer than 3" in diameter. There is a maximum 10 cans or bags per pickup.

QUESTION: What items are considered unacceptable?

ANSWER: Items considered unacceptable for pickup include: Tires, Building Materials, Shingles, Brick, Concrete, Stone, Ceiling Tile, Freon, Animal Carcasses or Waste and Human Carcasses or Waste.


Burning Permits

QUESTION: What are the rules for burning in Fort Gratiot Township?

ANSWER: A permit is required and applies to the burning of BRUSH only.  For further requirements regarding burning and campfires, click here. Burning permits for Fort Gratiot and Clyde Townships are available at the Fort Gratiot Township Hall, and upon approval are good for four (4) consecutive days.


Garage Sales/Zoning Permits

QUESTION: Are permits required to conduct a Garage Sale?

ANSWER: YES. The fee for the Garage Sale Permit is $ 2.00 and must comply with the following Section 4-09.04 of the Charter Township of Fort Gratiot Code of Ordinances, Title IV.  A License shall be issued:

1. To any person, only three (3) times within a twelve (12) month period;
2. For no more than four (4) consecutive calendar days; and
3. For the same location, no more than three (3) times within a calendar year.

QUESTION: Are permits required for accessory structures? (i.e., pools, fences, etc.).

ANSWER: YES. A permit is required for pools and fences, as well as an accessory structure, if it exceeds more than 200 sq. ft.

Water/Sewer Payments

QUESTION: What provisions are made for paying water/sewer bills, taxes and other related charges?

ANSWER: The Township does not accept Credit Cards, at this time. Bills may be paid by mail or in person at the Township Office. (A drop-box is available for your convenience.) Partial payments are accepted on water bills and taxes.

QUESTION: Where can an emergency address sign be obtained?

ANSWER: Emergency Address Signs may be obtained by contacting Rick Golat at 810-385-9388 at a cost of $20.00. Please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery.
