Permits are issued to burn BRUSH only, with the
following conditions and responsibilities:
"No fire shall be set when a high wind is blowing
(over 10 mph.). An adequate fire line shall be made around the area to be burned
and a force of personnel sufficient to control the fire shall be on hand at the
time of burning. A fire shall not be left unattended. The permit holder shall be
liable for all damage to property which may result from burning done under this
permit. No burning shall be done in road ditches, public rights-of-way, roadway
traffic lanes, public parking areas and public alleys. No burning shall be done
if smoke constitutes a hazard or nuisance. No burning shall be closer than Fifty
(50) feet from any standing structure. There shall be no burning of any leaves,
grass, building materials, rubber or any petroleum by-products.
A Burning Permit allows you to burn only branches,
brush and other natural products. Violation of this permit or burning without
this permit is a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be punishable by a fine
not exceeding $500.00, nor more than ninety (90) days imprisonment in the County
Jail or both, fine and imprisonment, at the discretion of the Court."
State of Michigan Air Quality Regulations state
that "open burning of brush and trees must be conducted further than 1400' from
the boundary of an incorporated City or Village and may not violate any other
air pollution rules." The following Streets are PROHIBITED from
burning BRUSH:

A permit is NOT required for Campfires or Bonfires, but must conform to the Rules and Regulations of the Fire Prevention Code, Title III, Chapter 3-06, NFPA-1, as follows:
- Fuel for a bonfire, shall consist ONLY of seasoned, dry fire wood and shall be ignited with a small quantity of paper.
- A Bonfire shall not be more than 5 feet by 5 feet by 5 feet in dimension and shall not burn longer than 3 hours.
The fire shall not be used for waste disposal purposes and the fuel shall be chosen to minimize the generation of air contaminants.
- Bonfires shall be located not less than 50 feet from any structure.
- Bonfires shall be CONSTANTLY attended by a competent person until such fire is extinguished.
- The responsible person shall have a garden hose connected to the water supply or other fire extinguishing equipment, readily available for use.
- The Fire Department may prohibit any and all open fires when atmospheric conditions or Local circumstances make such fires hazardous.
